The SAM enables you to perform tasks that include the following:. Provision a network with fast and easy configuration and multi-vendor scripting workflows that reduce risk of error and shorten network deployment time. Prevent service degradation through end-to-end power control, monitoring, tracing. Correlate faults to identify whether the problem resides in the IP or optical layer, and the root cause.
This function simplifies troubleshooting and isolates problems before services are affected. A basic SAM system has client, server, and database components that are deployed in a standalone or redundant configuration.
The main server sends and receives NE management traffic, and directs optional auxiliary servers to perform tasks such as NE statistics collection. Main and auxiliary servers store information in the same SAM database. The SAM also provides network management functions using browser-based applications. The use of the SAM applications is intended mainly for network fault monitoring and troubleshooting purposes.
There can be up to 50 concurrent application sessions. You can use the following URLs to access the dashboard, from which you can launch all supported applications. When both the active and standby SAM servers are up, you can connect to either to open the applications.
If only one of the servers is up, you must connect to that server. Table describes the applications and lists the URLs from which you can access the individual applications. Provides alarm monitoring, correlation, and troubleshooting for the most unhealthy NEs in the network, allowing you to filter, identify root causes, and determine the impact of alarms.

As carriers evolve their networks to support network function virtualization NFV , it is critical they are able to monitor their networks whether they are on dedicated, high performance networks, virtualized cloud-based architectures, or a combination of both. The SAM provides a common interface to manage both virtualized and physical Alcatel-Lucent network functions. Most carrier networks today are multi-vendor and have a diverse set of devices.
